The first topic we'll be studying is slavery. Obviously, we will start to uncover just truly how much of a role slavery played in the United States' development. But what we don't necessarily realize is that outside of our borders slavery is alive and well.

Make sure you answer these questions in a way that answers all of the ideas addressed in each question along with details that comes from the sources of information on the website or what we have learned!
Topics for you to discuss:
1. Why does slavery exist?
2. How has slavery changed and stayed the same compared to the traditional form that we'll study?
3. Why do you think slavery was so essential to the pre-Civil War United States and to some modern countries?
Slavery still exists because people want to not have to pay people for work so they go to the extreme of having slaves to do work for no pay. Slavery has changed by becoming not just work but prostitution and has stayed the same by the slaves getting payed little to nothing. Slavery was important to the pre-Civil War United States and some modern countries because it helped biuld our economy.
ReplyDeleteI think slavery is still around mainly because of poverty. Alot of people can't afford food, or shelter, or other things they need. So, they turn to slavery, where atleast then they get fed and sheltered. But it also separates alot of families. Slavery has changed mainly by the factor that it's based upon wealth now, compared to race back then. Like now, teenage girls of all races are forced into prostitution to possib;y help out their family. Children have become beggars in order to survive. I think that slavery was so essential to the pre-Civil War United States and some modern countries, because it's cheap labor that produces alot of goods.
ReplyDeleteSlavery has been around all through history. I think it is still around today because people don't have a choice in some contries and because some people will be slaves because they need to get food and shelter. Slavery has stayed the same in the way that they still rebel. Slaves can buy their freedom, own land, and their children will not be born into slavery. Slavery was essential to the pre-Civil War United States because the Triangular Trade was going on and it was made up of slaves making goods which were then brought to different places.
ReplyDeleteSlaves only still exists today because people are way to lazy to do they're own work. People tak, buy and trade slaves from different countrys around the world. They take them because people use slaves to do they're work for them. Slavery is different from what it used to be back in the 1600's. Its different because they dont take slaves after wars are won and they dont bring boat loads of slaves over from africa and other places. Atleast i dont think they still do. But its also the same because people still are too lazy to do they're own work on farms and plantations and many other things. People will always be too lazy to do they're own work. It was so essential to the pre-Civil War United States because the slaves were used to build shelters for people and work on the farm for them. The people barely got by with the slaves, without the slaves they would have lost plantations and farms and they'r homes. The slaves helped with building our economy into what it is today.
ReplyDeleteSlaves still exist today because people are ignorant and think that a human can be treated without rights and as property. Not much about slavery has changed. It might not be in the United States anymore but it is still all around the world. Most slavery is now with children and for sexual pleasures. Slavery was so important before the Civil War because it was a main thing for farming and business in the U.S. Slaves did mostly all the real work in the South.

ReplyDeletetoday slavery exsist only because people are getting poor. so the rich lazy people are buying them so they can do all the labor. it does work out alright in the end because the people that get taken off the streets gets a nice roof over there head. back then it was not good the slaves would get shiped over here in ships way overcrowed. for 400 to 700 people in a boat. wasnt even able to move sometimes unless people died off. then it did get better because people could buy their own land and houses. their kids also wernt born into the slavery of their parents. in the civil war period the slaves were needed a whole lot due to farming and building shelters. they needed to keep up the production of products and therefore got slaves to be able to do more at a time. overall wanted to keep the flow of the money coming in at a faster rate.
Slavery still exists today because of poverty, whether its human trafficking, bonded labor, forced labor or sex trafficking, it’s all over the world, including the United States. Slavery has changed compared to the traditional form we’ll study by the way that people were/are treated. The traditional way started off with a lot of freedom. Slaves were aloud to own land, and a lot of slaves paid for the expense of coming to the new world by slavery. Today, slaves are sold for as little as 100 dollars, back then it was about 10 times that amount. Also, the race would mainly be Africans, but today slaves are all different races, ages, class, education-level, etcetera. Slaves were so important to the pre-Civil War United States because how much work they could do in so little time, and they were cheap to have compared to the amount of work they were put through by their slave owners. Slaves didn’t only work on cotton plantations, they grew tobacco and food. They also built houses and other buildings, and anything else asked from their owners.
ReplyDelete"Ben long" I think thats slavery exists still because people find it easy to take advantage of kids and poor. The kids and people in poverty feel asthough slavery (prostitution) is their only way to get money, food, and shelter. Slavery has changed into it being more for the pleasure of the slaveholder/ring leader of a sex ring. It used to be more about the slaves doing work so the owners could get rich instead now they are doing for their pleasure. Slavery was important back then and now because people will and have been poor and one way to work around that is to be a slave for somebody who you think are "taking care" of you
ReplyDeleteSlavery still exists today because the poor are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer. There is a means for survival and the people who are to poor and unable to feed there familys and themselves need a way for survival so the rich people offer them food and shelter in return for all their labor. People are too lazy to do their own work and their just ignorant. I wouldnt say that the slavery system has changed much but the way the slaves are treated are a lot different today then they used to be, now a days slaves have zero rights and get treated like dirt, back then they could atleast own land and make a living. Knowing this is an essential because we need to be educated about the horrors that are occuring in our everyday lives. The truth must be told.

ReplyDeleteFrom my view point, the first reason why slavery still exists is that some people are suffering destitute lives in which they have no choice but becoming slaves in order to get food. The second reason is some people are kidnapped and sold to become servants. It is apparent that slavery has stayed the same: they still repel for their rights: they could buy their freedoms, etc. Slavery played a significant role to the antebellum period because it was one of the main causes to divide the North and the South. While at that time, the slavery was outlawed in the North, the South still used slaves as the valuable properties to develop the economics.
Slavery still exist today because the poor still are getting poor and the rich are getting rich. thats the way it work with the government taking money. No one can get ahead. that i think in my opinion is slavery. i dont think slavery have changed i mean we still work for others who work for ten more other. its just called different and with the laws today. all these fansy words they use can mean whatever they want. but everyone doesnt see that it is a type of slavery one way or another. And last slavery was al about money if there was no slaves no money. plan and simple. there were slaves comeing in and money going out.All and all when it comes down today society has all kinda of slavery and its not right. All people want is money, but is it worth someone else life long workstyle.
ReplyDeleteSlavery exist, because people want others to do the work for them. They find it easier to have slaves work for nothing than to call someone to come to get the job done and pay them for it after. Slavery has changed a little but not a lot. Teenage girl's are still giving themselves away for little pay to help out their family. Slavery was important to pre-Civil War United States and some modern countries because our economy wouldn't have come this far, and because it produces a lot of goods.

ReplyDeleteThere are many reasons on why slavery still exists in today's world. One of the reasons is that people would have no money depend on being slaves to get food on the table and a shelter over there head. Change is something that happens over time. Slavery has changed in both good and bad ways. A good way that slavery has changed is that it is not as commonly found as it was in the 1600's to 1800's. In the beginning times of slavery, slaves had much more freedom, but as time continued to go on slaves had less and less freedom. Slavery has changed more and i imagin that slaves now have more freedom. Slavery was so important to the pre civil war United States and to modern countries, and because people can receive good hand made products for a cheap cost because of the triangle trade.

ReplyDeleteSlavery exists because of one reason, greed. People want to make the most money with little labor. They send the slaves over to come do the work and produce the goods that gets sent over seas in bulk to make a big profit. The slaves eventually have paid themselves off in labor.
The slavery back then uses alot of consequences for mistakes, like lashings, compared to today that is a crime and will be taken to court. The way slavery is the same as it was back then is that most of the slaves are immigrants and some get lucky by getting an extremely low wage.
If slavery was never thought of and followed through with, there wouldnt have been a civil war. The civil war was to get all the states to be "free states" and abolish slavery.
I Think that slavery exist because people are lazy and high strung on themselfs. The way it differs is that slaves now get some more freedom then they did, now they get reconition and are feed alittle better, Then they werent evan a person they were more like a steer. The reason i think that slavery was so essential pre civil war time is because factory prodution hadn't come out yet and the slave owners wanted to produce more product than just him himself could do and it eventually escalated to the slave owner doing none of the work and makeing the slaves produce it all and the slave owner would be makeing more bank then he would be makeing if it was just him producing the product.
ReplyDeletethe only reason that slavery ever existed was because people are lazy and greedy. they all wasnt to make the most money doing absolutley no work. to me there is no difference between the color of ones skin, it is the difference of opinion that differs us. but people based there reasoning on the color of the skin. slaves were an essencial need during the pre civil war because there was no machinery and without the slaves they would have to do most of the work and they would lose their precious money. the slaves did all the work in the past and the whites got all the credit. not fair but definately a way of the past
ReplyDeleteSlavery exist because country's need money and that was the cheapest and most successful way to get money at that time. Slaves used to get paid for working and it stayed like that for a while but country's needed more money so they started being more strict and gave them no pay and almost starved them to death. So when the Civil War came around country's needed even more money so the U.S. took in more slaves than usual so they can start making some money as well.
